Ingredients
Ground Pork (1lb)
For the pork
- ½ medium onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2–3 tbsp sugar (white or brown — adjust to sweetness)
- ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1–2 tbsp water (optional, helps dissolve sugar)
For the bowl
- 2 cups cooked rice (warm)
- ½ cucumber, thinly sliced
- 2 fried eggs (sunny-side up or your style)
Cooking Instructions
Caramelize the sugar
Heat a large pan over medium heat. Add 2–3 tbsp sugar and let it melt slowly until it becomes a light amber color. Add 1–2 tbsp water if it’s too thick – be careful, it may bubble.
Cook the pork
Immediately add the ground pork to the caramel. Break the pork apart and cook for 3–4 minutes. Add diced onion and minced garlic. Season with salt and keep cooking until the pork is browned and coated in the caramel (another 4–5 minutes).
Optional: Add a splash of soy sauce if you want more umami (not required).
Prepare the bowl
Place warm rice into bowls. Add a generous scoop of the caramelized pork. Top with sliced cucumber for freshness. Finish with a fried egg on each bowl.
